Volkswagen Käfer - Brezel - Beetle typ 1 -1949Exterior: BlackInterior: Gray interior with beige floor matThis early Type 1 was sold new 1949 and later refurbished in Norway and came to Sweden late 1989. The car was then bought by Ulf Larsson and E.G. Larsson Bil AB (Now Toveks Bil) to be part of the VW museum that Ulf built up to become one of the most comprehensive Volkswagen museums that existed with a total of about 60 cars. The entire museum was later sold on to Bengt Holmgren, who continued to develop the collection. In 2018 the museum was sold and Ulf got the chance to buy back the beetle from 1949, which means that in reality it has only had 2 owners since 1990. The car received a major technical review recently and the engine runs fine. The car is in very good condition inside and out. The car, which was renovated to original design in the 1980s, is straight and fine in the sheet metal on all surfaces. The interior with seats and door panels are reupholstered in original-like fabric. As it should be, this early Käfer rolls on diagonal tires. No significant remarks, but the paint feels a little thick on some surfaces. A few small scratches, dust grains and small bumps can be found. Rubber strips have dry cracks. Unlike the Swedish cars, which were usually of the more luxurious export model, the Norwegian ones were more spartanly equipped with fewer chrome details.Engine number 10145155. (Engine changed a long time ago to time-period correct). Original engine on this 1949 VW chassis number 10114874 was engine number 10146172.The engine is 1131 cc and 25 hp strong and has a 4-speed unsynchronized gearbox. The odometer today stands at 26 134 km, but unfortunately cannot be verified other than that the car has not been significantly driven since 1989 when it was purchased as a museum piece.Facts about the model:1949 was a year of major model changes. Some of the novelties were hubcaps with smaller emblems, new interior rear-view mirror and two-spoke steering wheel, new clutch disc, full-covering rubber mat and better cylinders - cast with a higher phosphorus content.Volkswagen's history can be traced all the way back to 1898 when Ferdinand Porsche got his first job at the car builder Jacob Loner & Co in Vienna. In 1934, Porsche submitted its program statement and sketches of a German people's car to the German government - which became the starting point for the world's most produced car. The vision was a small car with an air-cooled engine in the back and room for four people - also cheap to buy and maintain. In addition, it could reach 100 km/h and handle gradients of around 30 percent. In 1938, the foundations were laid for the Volkswagenwerk a little outside Hanover, but it wasn't until 1946 that car production began in earnest. Sweden was one of the first countries to which VW was exported on a large scale and in 1948 the first cars arrived. On June 10 of the same year, Volkswagen signed the contract with the Swedish general agent Scania-Vabis, and a total of 55 cars came to Sweden during the first year - of which the first four test cars were rigorously tested. Others were only delivered the following year, when another 375 cars were imported.
