Museum registered and with the same owner for 30 years – a superb example!The car has been with the same family since 1995. It was originally purchased in Italy, where it served as a family car. Later it was left unused, until the family’s son decided to rescue it from being forgotten. He drove the Capri from Italy to Finland – and describes the journey as “one of the most memorable trips of my life, a true adventure behind the wheel of a classic, across Europe.” Shortly afterwards, the car underwent a thorough restoration and was museum-registered in 2016. The Ford Capri was introduced in 1969 as Europe’s answer to the American pony car phenomenon. Its purpose was to bring sporty looks and driving fun into a more affordable class – “The Car You Always Promised Yourself,” as Ford advertised. In 1978, the Capri Mk3 was introduced, developed from the Mk2 but given a more modern and aggressive look: new headlights, sharper lines, and a sportier presence. This model remained in production until 1986. The 1.6S offers a light and balanced driving experience, while its appearance suggests much more power than the numbers on paper reveal.Engine: 1.6 Pinto OHC (Italian version, 64 kW!)Transmission: 4-speed manualTrim: The “S” model stood out with sporty details – black trim, sport seats, decals, and special wheels.Styling: The long hood, coupé-style roofline, and distinctive taillights made the Capri an icon of its time. This was due to stricter emissions regulations introduced in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which required lower compression and a different carburetor → reduced output. In Italy, however, taxation was based on engine displacement, not power, and emission rules were looser. Therefore, the same 1.6 Pinto OHC engine could be tuned more freely, with higher compression and a stronger carburetor version → output up to about 88 hp (65 kW). An easy and affordable classic to own – the technology is simple and spare parts are still available.A rare sight today, especially in original condition.
