At the time, it was Lancia’s flagship model and replaced the Aurelia. During its production life, it appeared in several versions: sedans, coupés, and convertibles. The Flaminia coupé and convertible were coachbuilt cars, featuring bodies by several prestigious Italian coachbuilders. Many consider the Lancia Flaminia Zagato to be Zagato’s finest and most well-balanced design. When it was presented at the 1958 Turin Motor Show on the Lancia stand, the Zagato version looked extremely aerodynamic, featuring an aluminum body, headlights integrated into the bodywork, and the famous double-bubble roof. The earliest Flaminia Zagatos were the most streamlined versions, complete with faired-in headlights. From 1960 onward, vertical headlights were introduced. The ultimate Flaminia arrived when Zagato facelifted the original car into the Super Sport. This model featured a sharply defined rear end and the return of recessed headlights. Aerodynamics were further improved and complemented by Weber 40 DCN carburetors. The rear of the Super Sport reflects the contemporary aerodynamic trend inspired by Professor Kamm’s truncated tail design. The fastest Flaminia engine was the 3C, which stood for three carburetors. This particular Flaminia Super Sport Zagato is one of approximately 150 examples produced with the Zagato Double Bubble body. A late-production example with the 2.8-liter engine, three carburetors, and recessed headlights, this car represents the pinnacle of the model’s development. In 2017, this Flaminia came to the Netherlands. More recently, the engine was completely rebuilt by a well-known specialist. The engine has now been properly run in and is ready for many enjoyable journeys. The car is registered with both Zagato and the Lancia Registro Storico. The car is registered in the Netherlands; the Italian license plate visible in the photos does not belong to this vehicle.
