Ferrari's mid-engine cars have always been something very special. A series of cars that have defined a large part of the entire company for the past 40 years. The cars have of course been the basis for most of the company's production but have also been the basis for great success in motorsport. Something that really took off in the mid-90s when, with their own 'Challenge' series, they opened up the possibility of a more developed racing program for their 'gentlemen drivers' and private race teams. What was then called the 'Challenge' series has today become what is known as Corsa Clienti. But perhaps the best that has come from the series are the more focused street cars that were developed with the mid-engine cars as a basis but more adapted for track use. First up was the 348 followed by the F355 Challenge which were actually in both cases retrofitted packages that could be purchased for the "regular" cars. The 360 generation brought the Challenge Stradale model and was also the real starting point for Ferrari's stripped-down, rawer models.In 2007 came the successor. Based around the 430 platform we got this car. The 430 Scuderia. The car followed the same recipe as its predecessors with less weight and increased power along with a more motorsport focused chassis. Amenities such as leather-covered door sides and carpet sets were replaced with carbon fiber, visible aluminum welds and in some cases like here even the absence of a radio. The power was increased to 510hp and the result of the diet was 100kg less weight.It is a far more dramatic car to approach than a regular F430. Especially when it is, as in this case, a car completely in black that only highlights its contrasts in the brake calipers and its red 'Scuderia' stripes that run across the car, elegantly framed in a silver border. Although the profile may feel familiar from its sibling, the exterior differences are many. At the front, the car has received a more aggressive bumper that more easily directs the air where it needs to go. Further over the side a more defined sill with the same function as the front but it is at the rear that the car is easiest to identify as a Scuderia. The exhaust system has moved up and taken a more dominant position in the middle of the car and is surrounded by ventilation grilles that help the car evacuate air and direct it to its advantage. Carbon fiber is a dominant material in everything from mirrors to bumpers and diffusers but also here in details such as the tank cap and engine compartment. A trained eye also catches details in the lights that can be identified as the same material.The interior highlights the exterior contrasting color that becomes dominant here. Red alcantara is contrasted only in carbon fiber and aluminum. Sewn-in Cavallino Rampante emblems in the headrests in black and Sabelt 6-point belts. Few cars today deliver even close to such a dramatic driving experience as this 430 Scuderia. Swedish-sold car with a mere 25940 kms indicated and two actual users. The 430 Scuderia is Ferrari at its absolute best.Currently the car sits on steel brakes but is being sold with its original carbon ceramic brakes an addition to the system that is currently installed. Fully maintained by Ferrari since new and with a fresh service just done with new tires and new brakes on all four corners.
