Maserati Ghibli SS Spyder 4.9 Litre is among the most desirable Italian sports cars of the 1960s. Only twenty-five SS Spyders were ever produced, making this an exceptionally rare opportunity on the market. The condition, stance, and technical standard of this example are outstanding. The car corresponds to, or surpasses, Hagerty Valuation’s #2 Excellent Condition—both in craftsmanship and visual appearance. Factory specifications include: steel hardtop, Borrani wire wheels, power-assisted steering, 5-speed ZF manual gearbox, and a bespoke leather luggage set. The restoration is thoroughly documented with photographs and written records. A detailed technical and visual inspection report from von Braun Sports Cars is also available. This car was delivered new to Grossman Motor Car Corporation in New York on May 23, 1972. Chassis number: AM115/S49-1279 Engine number (internal): SS3561 All numbers matching. Original exterior paint in Argento Auteuil (metallic silver) paired with its original red leather interior. Ownership history: The first American owners are unknown. In the 1980s the car was owned by Vic and Betty Williams, who entered it at the 1985 International Maserati Meeting in Lake Tahoe, where it was awarded Best of Show. In 1988, the Williams sold the car to Craig McFarland in Carmel, California. In 1990, Swedish collector Bengt Welander purchased the car. When imported to Sweden that same year, it was complete and drivable, though showing signs of age. The most recent owner acquired it in 1995 and has cherished it for 30 years. From 1972 to 1996, the car covered 47,767 miles (76,643 km). From 1996 to 2025, it has accumulated 32,030 km following its restoration. Between 2014 and 2017, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration of the engine, bodywork, chassis, and paint, in collaboration with renowned specialists. Since completion in 2017, it has covered 12,730 km and has been displayed at selected events. Highlights include winning First in Class and Best in Show at the Maserati International Rally in 2022, where it also received a Concours d’Elegance Certificate. The restoration story was later featured in Viale Ciro Menotti, Issue #111.
