"The golden ratio" - is perhaps not the most interesting topic of conversation in many respects, but when it comes to Aston Martin and more specifically this generation of DBS, it is an important point to talk about. The rule is about how an object should be distributed so that the viewer will perceive it as beautiful. "The golden ratio" refers in this regard to the car's proportions and details and how these are distributed over the car's surface. Something that Aston Martin has followed zealously to create one of the absolute most beautiful cars of our time.In 2004, Aston Martin introduced the first model that would represent a new generation of the brand. The DB9. A beautiful long GT sports car with a front-mid engine layout and a 5.9L V12. A pretty good recipe to start a new generation with. And this is also where the journey for the DBS begins. It is precisely the DB9 platform that would form the basis for the new sports variants. Two years later, in 2006, the DBS was shown for the first time and at the same time was shown on the big screen as a concept car, but it took another two years, until 2008, before we got the production car. But it was worth the wait.This example is from 2009 and wears a sober elegant dark blue suit that gets wonderful contrasts in its aluminum details throughout. All of which seem to be perfectly placed and balanced...almost as if they had been designed with some kind of rule... The front lip and rear diffuser and also the arms that hold the wing mirrors are in carbon fiber but otherwise it is a material that is kept hidden under painted surfaces. Under the hood is the same 5.9 liter V12a but here more motorsport inspired with 517 hp and one of the most beautiful engine sounds that our world has ever seen.Open the doors and you are first struck by the angle at which they open. Aston Martin itself says that it is to avoid kerbs but it is undeniably also a design detail when the doors open at a slight upward angle. Like swan wings. Once you get over this design detail, you are greeted by a leather interior in dark blue leather with sections in beige alcantara. Everything is woven together with a wide, light contrast seam. Everything in here feels like mechanical art. Small details such as the meter housing here seem to be more of a clockwork sculpted from aluminium. The centre console flows down and divides the cabin and is permeated with aluminium controls. Something that is really consistent here. Leather. Alcantara. Carbon fibre and aluminium. Even the key is a work of art sculpted from crystal. To such a mild degree that Aston Martin themselves don't even call it a key. It is the 'Emotion Control Unit'... Tacky but at the same time not.34890 km and in wonderful condition and in the same ownership since 2013. This is Aston Martin at its best. Maybe even Britain at its best. A classic from day one and as beautiful as the Mona Lisa...but with 12 more cylinders.
