The vehicle was completely dismantled and restored from 2002-06, including painting. At the time I fitted an overhauled Cooper S engine, 1275cc, and a converted Ford Sierra five-speed gearbox including longer differential gearing and reinforced driveshafts. It is very comfortable on longer journeys, and fuel consumption with Weber twin carburettors was about 6. 5 l per 100 km on the open road. Furthermore I upgraded to telescopic shock absorbers all round, and the front axle has disc brakes. I also got a new fabric hood; all metal parts such as rims, linkage… are plastic-coated. The tank is internally lined and has no rust. About ten years ago I replaced the rear leaf springs and the water pump. Since then the car has been in the garage and has not been driven. The Sprite was originally registered in California before it was imported to Germany and bought by the previous owner. Then I bought it and completely restored it. Rust has therefore never been an issue.
