HighlightsThis car is on view as part of our ‘For the Love of Porsche sale’. This car is currently on view at Boxengasse and will be on view during the Megaphonics event weekend 1-2 August. Rare Karmann Hardtop 'Notchback' variant, one of just 699 ever made Left-hand drive exampleGenuine T6 Karmann-built 'twin grille' car Beautifully presented throughout in a wonderful period colour schemeSpecialist maintenance by respected Porsche marque experts Extensive works carried out at renowned marque specialistsThe AppealThe story of the Karmann Notchback Coupé is an unusual one. Porsche realised that most buyers ordered their 356s with the optional hard top option and seldom took them off. So Porsche decided to make a permanently fixed version. The original 1961 T5 was effectively a 356 Cabriolet with a detachable hard top permanently welded to the body. The T6 was altogether less rudimentary: its own dedicated design with a distinctive rear 'notch' that gives the rare model its nickname.Once overlooked, it is now widely regarded by knowledgeable collectors as one of the most interesting and collectable early air-cooled Porsches, rarer than the standard Coupé and increasingly difficult to find on the open market. This 1962 example is a genuine T6 Karmann-built car and, notably, a right-hand drive example: a combination that makes it particularly scarce. It is presented in a beautiful period-correct colour combination that suits the car's understated character. The car has benefited from specialist attention and maintenance by marque specialists, a well-regarded Porsche marque specialist, and shows 95,495 miles on the odometer. The vendor describes this as a charming, exceptional example that has been well cared for. For those seeking a 356 that stands apart from the more commonly seen Coupés and Cabriolets, the Notchback offers genuine rarity and individuality, and examples such as this are seldom offered to market.image.png 996.1 KBHistory and PaperworkUK registered with period registration '153 UYE'MOT/road tax-exempt95,495 miles (indicated)Notice to bidders: DVLA data records colour as silverimage.png 905.32 KBThe ConditionT6 body with desirable 'twin grille' deck lidPresents beautifully throughout in its period colour scheme. The colour scheme is a real highlight, looking just right for the period and a welcome antidote to the more common silver you find these cars in. The 356's underside is particularly clean, as shown in the photographs, while the interior exhibits very few signs of use.image.png 1.15 MBThe Mechanics1.6-litre air-cooled four-cylinder flat-four petrol engine with twin carbsFour-speed manual transmissionSpecialist maintenance carried out by respected Porsche marque specialistImpeccable engine compartmentLifting this car's (desirable 'twin grille') deck lid reveals a highly period-correct engine bay. The 356 made the most of a modest powertrain through low mass and the fitment of dual carburettors. All is presented in very good order with this example, and we're informed that it drives exceedingly well indeed.
